I picked up this book not really knowing much about it. I loved this book! The Gaither sisters head down south to spend some time with their relatives in Alabama (Big Ma and her mother Ma Charles).
I was a little disappointed in the Judge at Lucille's trial, but all in all, pretty satisfying. I would like to read some more of Childress's books. This is my second reading of this book, the first being many years ago. To say that I love this (audible) culmination of the Gaither Sisters trilogy would be an understatement. But it was his aunt Lucille who raised him for the better. This book was a quick read, but seriously, if you've ever been in a bad relationship and want a quick, decisive way out, this book offers a couple suggestions, albeit illegal suggustions. After having read the entire series, I can honestly say that I feel these books are very important for children. They don't believe her until she pulls his head out of a Tupperware container. Childress writes as if the fictional town of Industry and the events therein are as real as Selma and Birmingham and with the lesser known horrors that occurred all over the south at the time, who's to say they're not?
