The movie starts off well on a promising note, you wont be able to predict where it is going to lead you.
When the parts are so well-crafted, we don’t complain as much about their sum not adding up to a satisfying whole. Iraivi (The Goddess) – A Tamil Movie Review, The movie started in a disturbingly short time ago, in a land uncomfortably close by. Vijay Sethupathi also excels in his role as the erring husband and as the unquestioningly loyal friend who unwittingly ruins his own life. Too much of sadness is walking throughout the film from starting to ending.
All your stories have at their centre a filmmaker, or at least a storyteller.
Maybe because they expected a huge twist in the climax like Jigardhanda or Pizza...sorry boss this is not a thriller, its a drama. Firstly, I have to tell Karthik subbaraj is a genius.I could see this movie is definitely an inspiration from some Hollywood films and one film in particular which is "legends of the fall" but the director has cleverly tweaked as per tamil sensibilities and given a masterpiece of a film.The story is very unique and very relatable to the whole world.
Michael (Vijay Sethupathi) has sex with Malarvizhi (Pooja Devariya), and he continues to lust after her after his marriage to Ponni (Anjali, who’s terrific), but it’s a marriage he committed to in a hurry and he still hasn’t reconciled himself to it. Iraivi is a well crafted dark drama with brilliant performances and music and direction. Though at this point the movie becomes quite predictable, Director Karthik gives few twists and messages along. Iraivi (Goddess)-Yes as the Title says, it is about how women are stuck up among men who take hasty decisions without a second thought or a discussion.

The title intelligently relates to two interlinked plots in the movie, that is the lives of female characters in the story, and a sub plot related to the theft of goddess statues from temples. Thank you for the ambition.
Your men aren’t monsters who drink or cheat on their wives or subject them to torture. But this movie turned out to be a BIG disappointment. What could have been a great movie with good actors turned into a sham. But I suppose they couldn’t be any other way, because you like these shaggy-dog stories that you then embellish with novelistic detail. So we get women who are collateral damage of men being men. Throughout the film, women characters are juxtaposed with rains (fertile change) and windows (opening and illumination of darkness). Like Ponni.
Things go wrong when Michael commits a crime out of anger for the two brothers and goes to serve.
Director Karthik Subburaj on his third venture "Iraivi" has taken feminism as his subject which is very evident in the title itself (Iraivi less used word in Tamil which means Goddess).
