MESSIAH OF EVIL (DEAD PEOPLE) is an inchoate, jumbled narrative, given a boost by some of the more atmospheric scenes in the horror genre: The opening encounter with the albino at the gas station; Anitra Ford stumbling upon some late-night grocery store scavengers; Joy Bang sitting in a movie theatre while the seats around her gradually fill with the undead; the climactic raid on the beach house during which attackers …

She tells of her search for her missing father (played brilliantly by Royal Dano). I'm so pleased I did. Another one to consider is Dan O'Bannon's Dead and Buried, which also takes place in a small seaport town. A swinger and his two girlfriends take in a woman hitch-hiking through town, but as she soon finds out, all is not what it seems and soon the dead start walking by moonlight.

Cinemark I’m disappointed because had I realized there was a ‘ code red’ release I would have watched that ( they have better picture quality and are better at restoring). For comparison, look at Nicholas Roeg's Don't Look Now, Argento's Suspiria, Robert Altman's Images, Robert Mulligan's The Other, and Roman Polanski's Repulsion, all produced in the same decade, to see how scary this approach can prove to be. Reviewed in the United States on February 28, 2019. **SPOILERS** A cross between "Night of the Living Dead" and "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" the movie "Dead People" or as it's now known by its DVD title or reincarnation "Messiah of Evil" also adds into it's mix or witches brew the infamous and cannibalistic Donner Pary: The story of a number of prospectors trapped in the snow covered and frozen Sierra Nevada mountains in the winter of 1846/47 who were forced to eat human flesh, themselves, in order to survive. The ads in the newspaper alone used to scare the tar out of me.

In contrast to most of the living dead movies ever made this is a classic. Moreover, Huyck and Katz populate the picture with a striking array of genuinely quirky and colorful characters: Michael Greer as obnoxious rich hipster Thorn, the ever-adorable Joy Bang as the kooky Toni, sultry Anitra Ford as slinky vamp Laura, Elisha Cook, Jr. as drunken, unhinged derelict Charlie, and, most amazing of all, one shot wonder thespian Bennie Robinson as an astonishingly creepy rat-eating albino trucker.
Opposed to all these slightly negative aspects, there are several extended and genuinely macabre sequences that'll truly raise the hair on your neck with fear! It is a really good movie, and I recommend it to horror fans or (believe it or not), indie film fans. Ben Wheatley's Kill List, in some respects an homage to the 70s films (like Messiah of Evil) about murderous Satanic cults, deserves consideration, too. Unsettling... surreal... otherworldly... those are just a few words one can use to describe this picture. EDIT: DOES NOT INCLUDE ENTIRE MOVIE. Like Carnival of Souls, It had a dream-like strangeness and interesting visuals, which also reminded me of some of Dario Argento's films, which also twin mental delusion and horror and seem unimpeded by rationality. When she meets up with a swinging drifter the two soon discover that the weird locals are hiding a horrific secret, they're also quite hungry... DEAD PEOPLE (or MESSIAH OF EVIL) is one of those rare horror films that comes along only a few instances in one's lifetime. The ads in the newspaper alone used to scare the tar out of me. Terrible quality. Ordered twice and never got the full 90 minute movie. Just below that it reads "Ticket Confirmation#:" followed by a 10-digit number.

I have acquired a recent personal sentiment for this film. | Lovecraft storytelling mixed with flesh eating zombies results in the criminally underrated Messiah of Evil, the directorial debut of Willard Huyck who would go on to direct far less ambitious projects like the infamous Howard the Duck. A supremely eerie and effective 70's zombie horror chiller. Don’t worry, it won’t take long. Or good, but not on purpose. From the off the film establishes a disjointed atmosphere which is accentuated when she teams up with a man and two (stunning) women involved in a bizarre three-way relationship and together they try to fathom just what the dickens is going on in this creepy town. Really wrong. To me, it is like saying "you are flawed because the right side of your face doesn't look just like the left side."
All rights reserved. Virtually all of the praise I've ever seen for this film comes with the word "but", followed by a list of flaws. To me it was nothing more than some obscure 30+ year old title with no more sentimental meaning to me than a picture on an internet page. It's in full screen format. There are a lot of things that remain unexplained but when did dreams ever make sense? Like a spaced-out & supremely haunted West Coast, left-shoe drop to Romero's 'Night of the Living Dead', 'Messiah of Evil' is a wholly singular film which occupies a wholly singular era. Its part HP Lovecraft, part Night of the Living Dead, part Cabinet of Dr Caligari. The ending is way over-blown too. There is no other film which feels like this: like the whole world has been hollowed-out and made into a barely convincing deathtrap constructed by death itself for those still alive. Sidney Poitier’s 7 Most Memorable Performances, All Harry Potter Movies Ranked Worst to Best by Tomatometer. The four central characters were all chosen not for their abilities but rather for their physical features. Never has a supermarket been this terrifyingly claustrophobic! I thought the male lead did a much better job than, say, the female lead. The two girls who are traveling with the male lead are also surprisingly human and real for a film like this, and there is obviously some chemistry in the cast (but for the female lead: she's a bit too dreamy). Well, he's back! DO NOT BUY. Well, he's back! It's basically a zombie-movie, but surely NOT the type that George A. Romero popularized half a decade earlier with his milestone "Night of the Living Dead". I remember when this was re-released in the early '80s as DEAD PEOPLE. / Revenge of the Screaming Dead; The Second Coming; Dead People / Street Date October 27, 2009 / 24.98 Starring Michael Greer, Marianna Hill, Joy Bang, Anitra Ford, Royal Dano, Elisha Cook Jr., Charles Dierkop, Bennie Robinson, Walter Hill, B.
