His extraordinary biography of the Emperor surpasses all the previous ones. A very good read. It has plenty of new - to me - material, particularly of a personal kind. The rise of this When Napoleon is discussed, many either portray him as a villain who devastated France and Europe, or a farsighted misunderstood ruler who meant well but would not be accepted by other European powers.

Recommended read for anyone wanting an in depth perspective of the time, people and places associated with this incredible whirlwind of history. This is the best I've read.
