the interpreter review

| Nicole Kidman, an interpreter, alone in the UN, which is shut for the night, overhears a conversation as two men (why are they in the building with all the lights off?) All Critics (195) Fall TV First Look: Find Out What’s Coming, The Best Peacock Original Shows and Movies, All Upcoming Disney Movies: New Disney Live-Action, Animation, Pixar, Marvel, and More. The movie has some very strong opening scenes, shot on location in South Africa, and instantly grabs our attention. Your AMC Ticket Confirmation# can be found in your order confirmation email. The story goes in many directions to start and then goes no where - instead it makes the plots obvious. Is she, or isn't she?

I was steadily absorbed by The Interpreter, even though much of the plot didn't make a great deal of sense. We want to hear what you have to say but need to verify your account. My date fell asleep two-thirds of the way through the movie. At times, he has to look at Kidman dreamily only weeks after his wife's death??? Yes, the pacing is unusually slow for a political thriller. Then it will go back to it's snail crawl. Don't bother unless you're a big fan of the stars who do what they can with a Mc-script.

To me it was a nice break from all those action-full of special effects-plot less movies. With Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn you'd think the movie would be wonderful. Sydney Pollack has produced (and played a small part in it!) Sydney Pollack's "The Interpreter" is a taut and intelligent thriller, centering on Nicole Kidman as an interpreter at the United Nations, and Sean Penn as a Secret Service agent. I love also the moments in this film, such as when Penn's character in a country-western bar unplugs the jukebox to stop the noise of some country-pop crap then restarts it in order to play Lyle Lovett's wonderful "If I Had a Boat" then goes to a pay phone and calls his own house just to hear his wife's voice on the answering machine. The film's themes are disappointingly vague and unspecific, built around a fictitious African country that stands for anywhere -- and consequently nowhere. The Interpreter bristles with the smart, steadily engrossing tension that marked such 1970s goodies as "All the President's Men," "The Parallax View" and Pollack's own "Three Days of the Condor." As a character drama about dealing with violence and loss, The Interpreter is a quiet success. The film is very effective at both a macro and micro level; the international politics and personal emotional drama both carry to same amount of narrative weight. Directed by Sydney Pollack and having Nicole Kidman, Sean Penn and Catherine Keener in the cast, I thought that it would certainly be a great political thriller. Interpreter Silvia Broome (Nicole Kidman) is at the United Nations when she overhears what she believes is a plan to assassinate the president of Matobo, Edmond Zuwanie (Earl Cameron).
Taut, gripping and intelligent, The Interpreter works very well as intended - a political thriller. I heard some good comments about this movie from some colleagues, and I bought the DVD really expecting to see great film. The late director Pollack is smart with his scenes and shots, and the film works best at pulling the audience along for the ride, and spinning a yarn so involving that the loopholes seem negligible. Like when Drew Barrymore runs onto the field at Fenway Park in "Fever Pitch," the U.N. scenes provide what Werner Herzog calls "the voodoo of location" -- the feeling of the real thing instead of the artifice of sets and special effects. Good acting. The Interpreter is an extremely packaged political thriller that contains only a little punch. Sign up here.

This movie is Not A Thriller, Not Suspenseful. The movie has a realism of tone, too. I love suspense. Regal The camera lingers longingly on his face as he twitches eyes, lips, nostrils, in a gurnfest the like of which hasn't been seen since the Keystone Cops. The main reason I gave it a go was Sean Penn who seems to rarely make mistakes selecting his work. |, November 18, 2019 Cinemark Nicole Kidman stars as Silvia Broom, a UN interpreter with a dark history behind her. It's slow, slower and then slowest and then for a three minute stretch it will pick up the pace. Coming Soon. It doesn't flow at a good pace. | Rating: 4/5 Nicole Kidman can be a mixed bag, and Sydney Pollack a competent seasoned veteran director. I don't think I would go to watch the movies again or recommend it. They won't be able to see your review if you only submit your rating.

After she reports the death threat, she expects to be believed. | Despite the presence of large numbers of producers, and a wealth of experience, Pollock never really manages to reign Penn in. There are no approved quotes yet for this movie. | Rotten (84). |, May 27, 2008 Sylvia, we learn, grew up in Zuwanie's country, was a supporter of Zuwanie, saw her parents killed, became disillusioned. and the Terms and Policies, This is not a practice I was familiar with, and seems even to have escaped the attention of the Discovery Channel; I'd like to see a family debating whether to save the killer or drown him. Tobin Keller: I'd rather make the mistake of believing her, than the bigger one of not. Being from Africa, I found it highly annoying that they decided to use a fake country name (which of course not a lot of people would know!). Last night, I watched The Interpreter, primarily because I wanted to see if Sydney Pollack still had it and in my humble opinion, he does. Both Kidman and Penn are too "intense," the plot is dull and predictable, and the movie is far too long. |, August 7, 2008 Pollack (who has a small part in the movie) scored a massive coup when he convinced Kofi Annan to allow filming inside the UN building for the first time.
Interpreter Silvia Broome (Nicole Kidman) is at the United Nations when she overhears what she believes is a plan to assassinate the president of Matobo, Edmond Zuwanie (Earl Cameron). I mention the location because it adds an unstated level of authenticity to everything that happens. But is Silvia telling the truth?

But this movie has one of the most undeveloped scripts I've ever seen. The movie balances some far-out political conspiracies with a convincing look at the inner workings behind the security at the United Nations General Assembly, and it does help immensely that it was actually shot on-location at the UN. Director Sidney Pollack has given us some very fine films in the past; THREE DAYS OF THE CONDOR and TOOTSIE come immediately to mind, and he won an Oscar for OUT OF Africa (although it's not high on my personal list of his films). The Interpreter is an extremely packaged political thriller that contains only a little punch. As far as the plot is concerned I must say that I was satisfied because there was nothing that you couldn't apprehend and it was very well tight. Here, with a vaguely South African accent and a little-girl fear peering out from behind her big-girl occupation, she sidesteps her glamour and is convincing as a person of strong convictions.
