But Kubrick did more than just insert the music into the film, as lesser directors tend to. This space can be seen even in the early scenes of the film, during the doctor’s conversation with Wendy, every line between the characters is punctuated by a long silence. Many of his scenes which employ distinctive sound design and music have become iconic – the sex scene in A Clockwork Orange set to Rossini’s William Tell Overture at double speed; the cold, abstract two-note Ligeti piano étude in Eyes Wide Shut; the totally silent space walks in 2001. One of the times when the film demonstrates extreme camera angles is when Wendy locks Jack in the pantry and he tries to persuade her to let him out, during this scene the camera is directly below him (para, 1).

Earlier in the movie Jack is clean shaven with slicked back hair and a sense of refinement. Even more impressive is the close synchronization that is presented between the sound design and the on screen action. Even if the characters are standing right beside each other, speaking to one another, these empty echoes create a massive emotional space. One of the most chilling scenes in the film uses the Bartók piece to great effect to underscore some fairly straightforward dialogue.

Danny and his mother move to the barren bathroom. Repeatedly throughout The Shining, Kubrick bombards us with visual, auditory and conceptual hints of what is about to happen next. From A Bout de Souffle to Zabriskie Point, Hope Lies at 24 Frames Per Second attempts to cover every corner of the cinema spectrum. Even climax points and sudden outbursts in the film are matched precisely by the score.
In The Shining, almost the entire score is made up of music by the best European composers of Kubrick’s time.

This film is a horror, thriller, mystery, psychological horror and drama that was released May 23, 1980, starring Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall and Danny Lloyd. By then taking small things, like the throwing of a tennis ball against a wall, typing, or even just talking, and playing them without music over them, Kubrick was able to use this to accentuate the emptiness of the hotel and the loneliness that the Torrance’s have to deal with.

Jack Torrance played by Jack Nicholson, quits his job as a school teacher and takes a job as caretaker at the isolated Overlook Hotel in Colorado during the winter, hoping, Stanley Kubrick, already a renowned filmmaker, permanently left a mark on the face of the horror genre with the release of one of his most iconic films, The Shining.
A high angle is portrayed again when Danny is sitting on the floor playing with his toy cars, the angle is shot from this point of view to keep the viewer aware of the dangers that lurk around in the hotel. It was the twelfth feature film by Kubrick and was met with colossal critical success.
Everyone knows the iconic images from The Shining, but we notice the sound less, because we listen more passively.
