TTW has elements of all of these, and for me at least, it works so well that, despite Niffenegger's mediocre prose, the plot s so cleverly constructed, the story so romantic, sad and beautiful, the characters so memorable, that every couple of years I get an uncontrollable urge to read it again. Points for originality. Audrey Niffenegger is an exceptionally creative writer and visual artist who has achieved enormous success in both worlds. With the plethora of books available these days it's getting harder and harder to find a book that is worth reading. Henry, the time traveler, is the protagonist, with time itself as the antagonist. There is a lot of references to sex (not overly descriptive scenes but the characters have a lot of sex). It is interesting how the books that defy confinement to a single genre provide the most intriging premises.

It feels like real people despite the extraordinary reality of their lives. While it's rhetorically very lovely, the romance doesn't come through to me at all (due to a lot of things; the blandness of Clare's character, the dislikeability of Henry's, the "predetermined" nature of each of their meetings, and the gross pedophilia-ness of it all).
