This one was a love story, really idyllic; It begins in a fijord in Norway, describes the beauty of that far-northern area where a sensitive, handsome and rich group of young men are visiting with their yacht from England. But what awaits her in England is a labyrinthine maze of politics, conniving and plotting ladies of british nobility whose jealousy and envy for the enchantingly beautiful Thelma make her life miserable ......... Marie Corelli's writing style is very poetic and she is effortless to read.
What a fabulous debut from Bryn Turnball! When I read the synopsis to this novel, I thought "sign me up". I am interested in (but not obsessed by) tales of the monarchy. The author has focused on Thelma, Lady Furness, sister of Gloria Morgan Vanderbilt, aunt of Little Gloria Vanderbilt and confidante/rival of Wallis Simpson. Thelma is a sweet and tender love story, which must have thrilled the closet Victorian woman readers of romance novels.
