When the body of a local fisherman washes ashore, the town's clandestine relationship with drug smuggling is suddenly on public display. Its parts are more than their sum; you are better off living in its moments than thinking about what any of it means. Finally, a supernatural guilty pleasure show that is not about vampires. An overburden of sex scenes and some nudity may attract an audience, but this does not please me. The acting is on par with those awful soaps but if it's possible the writing is even worse.
I thought the acting was pretty great & the characters were rich.

This mess starts out with an interesting idea and quickly descends to a badly acted, over wrought soap opera with betrayal after betrayal, too many subplots and the usual gratuitous sex and violence. Alinor is a worthy heroine, but Gregory is so intoxicated with her character’s status as an ordinary woman that the book becomes as dull, drab, and well, ordinary as the trappings of her heroine’s world.
Elsa Pataky (Fast and the Furious) stars as the mysterious and alluring Adrielle Cuthbert, the leader of the Tidelanders who will go to any length to protect her tribe of people.

A TV-MA take on mermaid lore, Tidelands is a completely serviceable drama series. Some episodes have short steamy scenes.
The rest of the cast is just good looking, but the characters are stupid, and their acting kept me cringing. Also, my thoughts are a second series will probably be really cheap to make , not all that many of the first series cast left by the end of it all mayhem and carnage. One episode is not enough to understand its appeal ... A rewarding trash-watch [that] drew me in despite myself, until I realised I'd binged the whole thing. as hot as the *actors* are (see what i did there), their acting skills leave a lot to be desired. When it doesn't, which is a lot of the time, it feels cold and muscle-bound, pumped up in the wrong places. Worth watching, and will probably produce a second series.

Beautiful Australian land and seascapes, gorgeous women, handsome men... an interesting premise. Mas podemos colocar alguns porém como, violência em excesso é nudez. The novel is the definition of a slow burn, with your interest in its proceedings likely to rise and fall with the tides of its settings until its accelerated final third. As bad as any Neighbours or Home & Away.
The lead is okay, but when forced to play against the weaker actors, her own limitations are more exposed. it all seems relatively predictable. The central romance, which should benefit from a Fleabag inspired hot priest furor, burns with less intensity than much of her previous work.
the cliffhangers kept me going, and boy am I happy that they did.
It's well written and acted. I was hoping the sea lady would get her next, then I realised she was the "star" of this...thing. Interesting premise but terrible execution! Heard about this show recently and finished it in a couple of days so I guess you could say Im obsessed and cant wait for a season 2! |.

There is subterfuge in the human part of town, subterfuge amongst the tidelanders, and all hell between humans and tidelanders despite their strong reliance on each other as part of a production line "product" they make.
The better actors tend to be the supporting characters.

Then ending was spectacular and leaves you wondering if there will be a follow up season ( I hope so ). Not very carefully, but I did get through all of the 8 episodes.
The constables come across a dead body. But her entire life is upended when she meets a stranger on a dark night — a young priest, who calls himself James Summer, and is a secret emissary to the imprisoned Charles I. It’s already a dangerous time for any woman who dares to be different, but Alinor complicates matters by falling for the priest. This show has that amazing tackiness that makes you want to keep watching! Tidelands isn't perfect, but the characters and plot make for a fun ride. Elsa Pataky played a fun villain sashaying about as she murders people.The 2 brown people made a quick entrance/exit and lots of people from Spartacus are in it (Gannicus, I'm looking at you sweet face) Given the many characters I thought the writers gave everyone enough to do and I liked how many of the male characters were in the "damsal in distress" roles. Cal returns to the city where she hears about what happened 10 years ago. This is really D grade soap opera. Terrible acting!

Managing to watch two episodes, I had enough of this garbage. Supernatural soap opera is sexual, violent -- and boring.
However, due to a horrible lack of character development and mostly bad writing, I couldn't get into it. After being abandoned by her husband, Alinor struggles to care for her two children, employing her skills as a midwife and healer.
Violca delivers terrible news to Colton as Adrielle seeks expert advice about the shard. Corey has a realization while visiting the morgue.
Dropped the show as soon as she ordered the stupid rum cola, "claiming" the bar. Loved it and can't wait for a second season. It’s difficult to get into specifics without spoiling its details, but suffice it to say that the plotting here feels decidedly antithetical to any political views Gregory has previously espoused. Once you realize what you're meant to be taking from Tidelands... you realise this show is a f---ing GIFT. Top Critics (4)

However, when it shifts to focus on the fantasy elements, the story and some of the acting becomes cringeworthy at times.
Adrielle gives Lamar and Dylan tasks, while Rosa tries to finish things cleanly. And while they are occasionally pretty girls and handsome boys, they all reek to high heaven as actors. Refreshing new take on the siren spin & a good, mythological show for Netflix. I thought that this show showed a new perspective on merfolklore.

However, probably the worst offense of the writing is that it makes you root for the antagonist; they make her the underdog, and subject to loads of disloyal friends (which is mostly her own fault).
