I don't warm to old films about the Foreign Legion: they tend to presume we support the Legion's colonial mission and that rebellious natives are threats to civilization. Separate, fun, and interesting story if you are interested. There are some very intriguing scenes; my favourite being the Viking's burial. Donlevy didn’t make many friends on the set. He forces two deserters back in to the desert rather then lock them up for a trial. The motivations of the characters hold up until the end and make sense. This film does not have a lot of location changes.
