That surprised me because it is such a great movie I assumed it was "tweaked" for dramatic purposes, but not so. Wanneer je deze, als ook andere ingevoegde media op de site wilt zien, dan moet je hier even toestemming voor geven. Echt betoverd of geïmponeerd word je derhalve nooit, en dat lijkt wel de bedoeling van de producenten van deze bedrieglijk drammerige film. Het waargebeurde verhaal van schaakgrootmeester Phiona Mutesi, die opgroeide in Katwe, een wijk in de Ugandese hoofdstad Kampala en dankzij Robert Katende, een vrijwilliger bij het door de VN gesponsorde Sports Outreach-program die gespecialiseerd is in schaken, haar eigen talent voor het bordspel ontdekt en daarmee mogelijk een weg uit de armoede kan vinden voor haarzelf en haar familie.

My 10 year old daughter had been wanting to see it, and overall she enjoyed it, but some scenes really upset her (when they lose their apartment, and when the brother almost drowns) to the point that she was sobbing during them.
