I can't understand so many people having a problem with it. Ultimately, after making up for their fight, Richard and Lilli discover natural love and passion, which deepens their emotional bond. I saw both "The Blue Lagoon" and "Return to the Blue Lagoon" when I was a bit younger, but when I rewatched them I got the same feeling as before.. they are both excellent movies about love and this one is no worse than the first. The film was a box-office bomb: on a budget of $11,000,000, it made less than $3,000,000 in the United States.
