Crystal clear B&W images with equally crystal clear audio - a perfect copy on DVD with well timed English sub-titles - I remember this film the first time around and after all these intervening years it is still as fresh and enjoyable as ever.....Fantastic to see the old cars in most of the background shots, cars such as the little Renault 750 - Simca Aronde and a good few Buick's too. Hardly any American gangster movies can touch its coat never mind better this . The foursome band together to commit an almost impossible theft, the burglary of an exclusive jewelry shop on the Rue de Rivoli.

What makes this a problem is that the concluding 40 minutes or so after the heist comes across as pretty run-of-the-mill.
After all, tough guys love Rififi. Tough guys playing at being tough and being risky. When he's offered an easy job to steal three rocks from a jewelry store, he refuses at first; and later, he proposes even a more daring job, one that will take several hours but will have greater profits.
