Seeing it again it's not amazing but i mean all of it just flooded back to me. Company Credits I saw this randomly on tv when I was like 11 and it was one of those experiences where you didnt know what the movie was called, you didnt know how it started, but you knew how it ended.
This does not look very good in inevitable comparison to Akira and uses my all-time most-hated animation technique - 2D people walking down a 3D corridor and turning corners. The subversion of the typical adolescent male fantasy — caped superhero in Akira, steam-powered tanks and weaponry in Steamboy — is thrown out the window in the final third as the film suddenly pivots to actual capeshit, a narrative tangent that’s summed up through a series of stills…, It's impossible to watch this without comparing it to Otomo's magnum opus, especially since this clearly takes so much inspiration from it. Overall... could've been better, could've been worse, but I'm glad I watched it. voiced by Alfred Molina and 4 others. Report this film.
The Most Comprehensive List of Japanese Movies Ever...Maybe. Apparently almost 20 minutes is missing. The story follows a young mechanist prodigy trying to reconcile his own love of technology with its greedy misuse by those around him (in particular his father Eddy, American Robert Stephenson and O'Hara Foundation Chairman Archibald Simon). Doesn’t become a total slog until the final 30 minutes, where hollow steampunk fetishism overrides any remaining semblance of characterization and thematic throughline.
